Boutourline is a Russian count and minor poet and a friend of Vernon Lee.
In Althea (1894), a dialogue-style essay, Boutourline appears as a young Russian, Boris. And Lee admitted that Boutourline helped her write The Count of Albany. The grandfather and grand aunt of Boutourline were friends of Count Albany.
Lee’s short story 'Oke of Okehurst' is dedicated to Boutourline. Lee says that she started to write this story on the recommendation of Boutourline.
In a letter to her mother, Lee calls Danunzio "an inferior Boutourline."
